The life of our parish community depends on the generosity of our great team of volunteers who help out in so many different ways. Without them our parish would not be able to function.

A big thank you to all those who do so much.

Volunteering like this is an important way, for those who are able, to contribute something practical to the building up of the Kingdom of God.

Please take a moment to read through the list below of some of the many different tasks that volunteers already do – some may surprise you! Perhaps there are things there that you’ve often wondered – how does that happen?!

What could you help with?
  • Altar Server
  • Altar Server co-ordinating/preparation
  • Baptism preparation team – helping parents to get ready of baptism
  • Baptism service – helping out at the service and set up everything up
  • Bonus Ball – collecting the money before Mass off those who have signed up
  • Bereavement team – offering monthly meeting to support the bereaved, sending out cards on first anniversary of death and arranging the annual bereavement service
  • Church Cleaning – at St Marks every other Wednesday morning before exposition and at Holy Family every week on Tuesday at 9.30am
  • Coffee & Tea after Mass
  • Communications Group
  • Emptying votives – each week getting the money out of the votive candles for it to be passed into the parish office
  • Eucharistic Ministers – helping with the distribution of communion at Mass and to the housebound (training provided, Safeguarding requirements (DBS check))
  • Finance group
  • Flowers
  • Funeral Stewards – helping out at funerals to make sure things run smoothly
  • Health and Safety Group – meets regularly to ensure that we are on top of things
  • Holy Communion preparation – team support parents and children after Mass
  • Ladies Group
  • Leading the Lectio Divina group – helping us to reflect on the gospel reading each week after Wednesday morning exposition
  • Live Simply group – helping us to think about how we can better care for creation
  • Little Church (children’s Liturgy of the Word) – working with the children during Mass to help them to understand the gospel each week (resources provided, DBS check involved)
  • Lourdes Fund-raising and Grant group
  • Maintenance group – our buildings need constant upkeep – the team keep on top of things by doing some odd jobs themselves or arranging for contractors to undertake the work
  • Mission boxes – arranging for the Red APF mission boxes to be emptied
  • Money collectors – taking the collection at Mass
  • Money counting team – each week to count the offertory collection
  • Music ministry – do you play an instrument or could you sing in the choir?
  • Newsletter folders
  • Opening up for contractors – from time-to-time contractors need access to our sites – could some of these be arrange with you so that you can let them in/lock up after?
  • Parish Council – meeting every other month to oversee the life of the parish community
  • Piety stall
  • Prayer of the Faithful – the team prepare the intentions for us each week
  • Various admin tasks
  • New Catholics (RCIA) - helping adults who want to become Catholics
  • Readers – helping us all to hear the word of God at Mass
  • Sacristan team – setting everything up for the Masses and Services
  • Safeguarding – assisting with DBS checks and keeping up to date on safeguarding requirements
  • School Governors
  • Singing at nursing homes
  • SVP
  • Washing altar linen
  • Wednesday afternoon club
  • Welcoming team – to be at the back of church to welcome us before Mass
